Ginseng dans les soins capillaires : pourquoi l’utiliser ?

Ginseng in hair care: why use it?

Fabrice Turco

Some plants have a history that extends far beyond cosmetics.

Ginseng is one of them.

For centuries, its root has been used in various Asian traditions.

  • A distinctive root.
  • Precious.
  • Slow to develop.

And gradually became one of the most emblematic plants in traditional Asian pharmacopoeia.

Today, ginseng also has a place in cosmetic formulations.

For the skin.

But also for the hair.

Why?

A root with a complex composition

The term ginseng encompasses different species belonging to the Panax genus.

The root naturally contains many plant compounds.

Among the most studied are ginsenosides, a family of molecules characteristic of ginseng.

It also contains various sugars, amino acids, and other compounds naturally present in the plant.

This richness explains the interest ginseng has generated in many areas of research.

In cosmetics, its extract can be incorporated into formulations intended for both the scalp and the hair fiber.

But here again, tradition, scientific research, and cosmetic claims must be distinguished.

Does ginseng make hair grow?

This is probably one of the questions most frequently associated with this ingredient.

Ginseng is being studied for the biological mechanisms associated with the hair follicle.

This research is interesting.

But they do not establish that a shampoo containing ginseng will automatically make hair grow faster.

A rinsed-off cosmetic product acts in a very different context from that of a laboratory study.

At SHAYKO, we therefore prefer not to turn a scientific avenue into a promise.

The role of ginseng in our hair care products is part of a more holistic approach.

Supporting care for the scalp and hair within a balanced formula.

The scalp deserves the same attention as the hair

We often tend to look only at the lengths.

And yet, everything begins at the root.

The scalp is skin.

  • It produces sebum.
  • It has a protective barrier.
  • It is exposed to perspiration, impurities, and product residue.

Above all, it houses the hair follicles from which hair originates.

A coherent hair care ritual must therefore consider two areas.

  • The scalp.
  • And the hair fiber.

It is precisely within this holistic perspective that certain plant extracts, such as ginseng, find their place.

Why combine it with other ingredients?

Because hair care is never built around a single ingredient.

Each material has a function.

But it is their combination that creates the identity of the formula.

At SHAYKO, ginseng is precisely what our three shampoos have in common.

MAÎTRISE.

MATIÈRE.

LUMIÈRE.

Three formulas.

Three intentions.

But the same plant extract lies at the heart of our haircare approach.

In MAÎTRISE, ginseng works alongside hydrolysed keratin and aloe vera in a formula designed to preserve the fibre’s suppleness and reveal hair that is smoother and more controlled.

In MATIÈRE, it is combined with castor oil and aloe vera to care for the hair fibre and support hair seeking greater body.

In LUMIÈRE, it meets silk proteins and aloe vera in a formula designed to preserve softness and reveal hair that is silkier and more luminous.

Ginseng therefore does not define these three treatments on its own.

It contributes to their balance.

Another way of looking at ingredients

In the cosmetics world, certain ingredients sometimes become trends.

An active ingredient appears.

Its name is repeated.

Then a multitude of claims become associated with it.

We prefer a different approach.

Understand the ingredient.

Understand its function.

Then determine whether it truly has a place in the formula.

Ginseng is interesting precisely because it should not be considered an isolated solution.

It is part of a whole.

A shampoo must first cleanse properly.

Respect the balance of the scalp as much as possible.

  • Be pleasant to use.
  • Rinse out easily.
  • And support the hair fibre according to the desired result.

The ginseng extract then enriches this architecture.

Tradition meets contemporary formulation

This may be what makes ginseng particularly interesting in the SHAYKO universe.

It represents an ancient material integrated into a contemporary perspective.

A plant known for centuries.

Observed today using the tools of science.

Then used in moderation in a modern formulation.

This meeting of heritage and precision reflects the way we conceive care.

Not choose between tradition and science.

Make them work together.

Not turn an ingredient into a miracle.

Understand what it can truly contribute.

And give it its rightful place.

Because a successful formulation never rests on the reputation of a single material.

It emerges from the balance between everything that makes it up.

“Tradition reveals materials. Science teaches us to understand the place they can truly occupy in care.”
